2 Pixels

Why am I listening to The Smiths?

I saw 500 Days of Summer this week.  Quirky non-rom rom com.  I love the wardrobe/styling for Zooey's character in this film, and the soundtrack is great. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V4PH88hf_YY

Fly the like the wind...

Sadly today we learn that Patrick Swayze has passed on.  For many girls of my generation Patrick would have featured on their folders, diaries or bedroom wall.  I first saw Patrick in The Outsiders in which he played Darry, the eldest brother struggling to keep his troublesome kid brothers on the right side of the tracks (sigh).  Dirty Dancing made me want to dance, dance, dance - who didn't want to be pulled from the corner by those brooding, strong arms (sigh).  Pointbreak caught me right in the middle of my surfie phase and I would always choose Patrick over Keanu... those salty blonde locks, the rough and tumble stubble, the banged up knee and tormented morality...  sigh.  RIP Mr Swayze.

Soup & A Seat at The Film Archive

As a lunchtime escape, a friend and I went to a 'Soup and a Seat' session at the Film Archive.  Today's screening was Flight of the Conchords - A Texan Odyssey. I can't decide what was funnier, a fresh-faced Brett and Jermaine playing out their banter, the adoring (and slightly disturbing) Texan fans, or this guy... Kinky Friedman who referred to Willy Nelson as the hippy Dalai Lama and whose slogan is 'Kinky for Texas'.

Soup And A Seat - perfect Friday lunch escapism... Every Friday at 12:15pm, from 7 August until 18 September, come in for a homemade soup and a choice selection of films.

Next week... 12.15pm, Friday 18 September
A chance to see Taika Waititi’s Tama Tu, Two Cars One Night and the
brilliant Flight of the Conchords: Episode 7. (NZ, Various, 58 mins, PG)

Poster Cabaret

Fantastic silk-screened concert posters from Poster Cabaret.  Yummy colours on this one.

Katherine's Yummy Marshmallow Balls

INGREDIENTS
100g butter
2 tablespoons baking cocoa
½ cup brown sugar
½ can condensed milk
1 teaspoon vanilla essence
2 cups plain biscuits, crushed (2 cups of biscuits is 1 packet - wine biscuits or similar are good)
12 marshmallows, cut in half
Desiccated coconut

METHOD
Heat butter, cocoa, sugar and milk in a medium saucepan, stirring constantly, until butter and sugar just melt and mixture is smooth.  Remove from heat and stir in vanilla essence and biscuit crumbs. Mix thoroughly and leave until mixture is cool enough to shape. With wet hands, shape a spoonful of mixture around each piece of marshmallow to form a ball. Roll in coconut.  Place on a tray lined with baking paper and refrigerate until firm.

I found eating these for breakfast to be most satisfactory.... // mm
